Articles on Disaster Risk Gateway are currently grouped into Multi-hazard Risk Assessment and Multi-hazard Risk Management according to details and key words provided with submissions. We acknowledge the overlap between this categorisation. Multi-hazard Risk Assessment approaches speak to understanding disaster risk, the first priority for action of the UN Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Multi-hazard Risk Management approaches speak to governance and policy, and can include Multi-hazard Risk Assessment approaches.

To create and edit pages on Disaster Risk Gateway you need a user account. Watch the Disaster Risk Gateway - How to create an account video walkthrough

How to request an account and log in

Step 1: Click on Request account, or click on the person icon in the banner at the top of the page and select Request account.

Step 2: Enter a username and your email address, then click Request account. Please make sure you have read the Privacy Notice and Terms of Use before requesting an account.

Step 3: You will then receive an email entitled 'Account creation for Disaster Risk Gateway' stating:

An account for Disaster Risk Gateway (<https://disasterriskgateway.net/index.php/Main_Page>) named "Username" has been created for your email address with the temporary password "xxxxxxxxxxxx".

You should log in and change your password now.

Step 4: Click on the person icon in the banner at the top of the page and select Log in. Enter your Username and temporary password provided in the email. You will be prompted to change your password before you can continue.

Step 5: Email notification preferences. Click on the person icon in the banner at the top of the page and select Preferences. Here you can make changes to your user profile and set email notifications. Please note that unless you remove notifications for edits to pages, you will receive numerous emails throughout the wikithon. You can always go back and change your preference if there are any pages you wish to be updated on.

Step 6: Return to the Get started page and click Select how you would like to contribute to the wiki

Before contributing content please read the Terms of Use and Privacy Notice. If you choose to contribute content you confirm that you have read and agree to abide by the Disaster Risk Gateway Terms of Use.

Editing wiki pages

Please follow these guidelines for contributing new content or editing existing pages on the Disaster Risk Gateway wiki.

Basic formatting

The Disaster Risk Gateway has been created using MediaWiki, just like Wikipedia. This software uses Wikitext, which consists of syntax and keywords to format pages. Additional formatting can be done using HTML elements.

Add a new approach in three easy steps

Step 1 - Create a new page
  1. Type the title of your new page into the Search box in the banner at the top of the page. This should be the title of the approach you are adding.
  2. This will open up a search results page which will state that there are no results for the text you typed. Below this you will see the text: 'Create the page "TITLE OF YOUR NEW PAGE" on this wiki'.
  3. Right click on the 'TITLE OF YOUR NEW PAGE' (which will appear red as a page that does not exist yet), and select 'Open link in new tab'. This will create the page with an editor window, ready for you to add content to.
Step 2 - Add content to your new page

The easiest way to add content is to use the template below. That way you do not have to worry about formatting.

Template

<div style="text-align:justify">
'''Year of publication''': ADD TEXT HERE

'''Access''': ADD TEXT HERE

'''Link''': ADD TEXT HERE

'''Organisation(s) / Author(s)''': ADD TEXT HERE

'''Description'''

ADD TEXT HERE

'''Technical considerations'''

ADD TEXT HERE

'''Keywords'''

ADD TEXT HERE

Back to '''[[Multi-hazard Risk Assessment|<span style="color: #374CFF">Multi-hazard Risk Assessment]]'''
</div>
  1. Click on the tab which has 'Create a page' open. Expand Step 2 - Add content to your new page
  2. Select and copy everything in the template box, including the formatting.
  3. Navigate back to your new page by either by clicking on the tab with your new page open, or by typing the title in the search box, and clicking on your new page title.
  4. Paste the copied text into the editing window of your new page, and replace where it says ADD TEXT HERE with your own. Please be as detailed as possible. Please note, you should not have to make any changes to the formatting. To view an example of a completed page see here
