Disaster Risk Gateway is undergoing development. During this period pages will change and there may be short outages.
Definitions
This page provides the definitions of multi-hazard and multi-risk terminology adopted by the MYRIAD-EU project. They were compiled during the creation of the Handbook of Multi-Hazard, Multi-Risk Terms, Definitions, and Concepts. The handbook was developed to promote a shared understanding of terminology and concepts within the MYRIAD-EU project consortium and the broader community.
Definitions were sourced from the wider literature or created by the MYRIAD-EU project consortium. Wherever possible, they align with established glossaries, including the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) terminology for disaster risk reduction. In all cases definitions are constructed for general usage and are not sector specific.
For definitions related to individual hazards, we refer readers to the UNDRR/ISC Hazard Information Profiles (HIPs).
