We have developed a methodology to determine impact-relevant durations for climate hazards, with anexample application to extreme heat events in Germany (De Polt et al., 2023). Impact-relevant durations can then be utilised to develop time-dependent intensity-damage functions which allow us to identifyhazard-impact thresholds. Input parameters for both methods include hazard metrics (e.g., temperature for heat waves; soil moisture for droughts) as well as impact/damage (e.g., mortality; hospitalisations) or societal response metrics (e.g., media attention). Our approach is quantitative and data-driven, enabling precise analysis of hazards in the context of their impacts. These methods, which are applicable a range of both single and multi-hazard scenarios, currently utilise datasets within the health sector and public attention domains, though have potential for expansion to other sectors where temporally consistent impact datasets are available.&lt;br /&gt;
